Nice blog. Yes, Cal has the old world charm and culture. No doubt about it, and it is more "homey" than many other cities in a way. Food is excellent and cheap. I was last there a couple of years ago, it has no tchanged too much in the landscape, and in a way, that is nice. How come Nizam's didn't find a mention in your blog?

So glad that you liked the post. Well Kolkata has that old world charm that is enchanting. For me food was one aspect that really attracted me to Kolkata. Not fond offishes and rice  I can understand, but sweets!?!? How can one not like the mishti Bengali sweets? Surprising:D

N yeaa Kolkata literature is a treasure. I still remember the hous I used 2 spend at the Kolkata Boi Mela and at oxford book stores going thru Satyajit Ray’s Feluda. It’s a pity u don’t find Bengali literature as easily in Mumbai.

Hope u get to go there asap:D

Glad that you liked my blog. A person who has stayed in Kolkata will quickly relate to what I have discussed. N well after having Puchka I have similar feelings towards pani puri.

Thanks a lot for the wonderful comment. Very informative indeed. It feels really good that my blog was liked by Bengalis in particular, cos initially I was quite apprehensive as to how true Bengalis would react to a Mumbaikars take on Bengali food. 4-5kgs of fish in 6 days, now dats a hell lot by my standards. Good to hear that inspite of not staying in Bengal, your love for Bengali bhojan is eternal.

I have heard about “Howrah”, and the place looks very simple unlike the elite Oh Calcutta outlets you have around.

Thanks for liking the post. Foodwise Kolkata rocks!! Good to hear that my blog took you back to ur days in Kolkata. Do make a trip to the City of Joy, the rolls n puchkas await you:D

Kalidas

Lionbikash

Glad I could do that. Thanks.

Spotty

Thanks a lot for liking the article. And moreso cos you are a Bengali and could relate to a Mumbaikars take on Bong food. Being a pucca Taurean I am a die hard foody and Kolkata provided some really fabulous dishes. ‘Bojohori Manna’ is it near Kwality/swimming pool area?? I too miss out on the puchkas and rolls and the sweets badly!!

TD,

all that romantism for Kol...Boy! you make me nostalgic
been six years i went there and no sign of going there any sooner :(

am not a contemporary bong in many senses ...i dont like fishes [ even islish] , i'm not fond of sweets , i'm not fond of rice ...but yea the air of Kol has a different aroma altogether. feels so much warm , close to the heart!

the bong culture in general so rich...music , dance , literature ....everybody has something tell you something new...
and then the serene banks of ganges :) the howrah bridge [let them name it wateva...it remains howrah bridge to me]
the exuberant and colourful festivals...i just wish this place was lil more apolitical :D

excellant piece of writing!

Pakhi
